A Very Jemjie Blog

Jemjie.com Released!

| Comments

Good day, one and all.

I have been working hard, for the last few days, on getting this site up and running. Most of the hard work is now done, now I just have to add features ontop.

I aim to add to this site the following features:

  • Blog (this: mostly done 05/02/07)

  • Photos (hopefully done by 12/02/07)

  • Forum (hopefully done by 26/02/07)

  • Wedding pages (added as and when appropriate)

  • RSS feeds (mostly done 05/02/07)

  • A ‘tree’ of people involved in the wedding: parents, grandparents, siblings (brothers actually, as we have no sisters!), wedding party, etc.

  • A "profile" page for all users, where they can write a little about their relation to Jemjie, and possibly any specialities where they think they will be helping in the wedding (e.g. attire, stationary, …)

This site has really the following purposes:

  • To be a one-stop shop for details of our wedding

  • To help other people getting married to find ideas without having to pay!

  • To store photos and suchlike for all to see (only registered users, probably)

  • To allow the different people involved in the wedding to get to know and recognise each other: to break the ice!

What needs to be done yet:

Not just by me!

  • This site is obviously, like all websites, a work in progress. I will be adding the aforementioned features over the next month or so, but the site should be ready to be used very soon. Have to upgrade the user interface first.

  • I would like everyone involved in the wedding to send me a photo of their face (aka a mugshot), so that we can make the ‘tree’ mentioned above

  • I will be enabling comments from not-logged in users soon, but for now you must register to leave a comment on the blog.

Decisions yet to be made:

I will make a forum in which these can be discussed sometime in the next month.

  • Should people who are not registered&logged in be allowed to view the photos? If so: all of the photos or just some?

Comments on registration:

I hate registering to websites, so we have made it very simple.

With your save the date card you recieved a username and password. These are written in pencil on the back of the card. Usually the username is your name and contains only letters and underscore ( _ ). The password is only numbers. If you didn’t get a username then please e-mail one of us and we’ll give you one.

Thats it!

A note on the state of the site:

As the site is under development, I have left a lot of debugging features turned on. This means that you may see errors on the site, these are mostly harmless. If you have time, just copy and paste the whole error into an email to me, it will be much appreciated.

If you see pages that are just white, with a little text on them, just click the text. This is so that the site doesn’t go off doing things without me knowing what is going on. These intermediate stages will be removed when I am happy with the state of the site.

Fare thee well!

Thanks for reading this far! I know I write long posts!

Benjie.
